Giant Saguaro Sonoran Desert Portrait. Another image from our Thanksgiving trip to Scottsdale Arizona.
A portrait scenic view into the Sonoran desert of the southwest in North Scottsdale Arizona. A scenic view of a giant saguaro cactus and lush desert.
The giant saguaro cactus is the main defining plants of the Sonoran Desert. These plants are massive, tree-like columnar cacti that develop arms as they age. These arms generally bend upward and can amount to over 25. Saguaros are covered with protective needles, white flowers in May, and red fruit in the hot summer month. The giant saguaro is the largest cactus in the world. The cactus’s arm grows only when it is 70 years old. The flowers appear on the saguaro when the cactus is 35 years old. The cactus is considered adult when it is 125 years only. The saguaro is one of the heaviest plants. Because it consists of water mainly, an adult saguaro can weigh up to 8 tons.
