A Colorado lightning thunderstorm cell with lightning striking and mean looking clouds. Lightning is caused by an electrical charge in the atmosphere that is unbalanced. The movement of rain and ice inside a thundercloud creates an electrical charge, with the negative charge (electrons) forming at the bottom of the cloud and the positive charge (protons) forming at the top. Lightning bolts, cloud to ground striking the front range foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains in Boulder County. A view of the Twin Peaks, Mount Meeker 13,911′ and Longs Peak 14,256′ in the distance. Black and white version by storm chase Bo Insogna aka The Lightning Man Started this storm chase from the edge of north east Boulder County where I like to sit and watch things develop, then decide what direction to run to. As I saw it starting to hit I decided to hit one of my favorite spots on highway 36 between Boulder Colorado and Lyons. A fantastic colorful Colorado cloud to cloud lightning thunderstorm. Budweiser Power – Massive Lightning Thunderstorm all over the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser Brewery. This was one crazy amazing storm. I chased this very erratic lightning thunderstorm all the way to Wyoming. It was sooooo crazy at one point I would hit my shutter button then jump in the back of the SUV to get my feet off the wet ground. Colorado Lightning Thunderstorm May 23rd, 2011. This storm came in from the south, I was in North Boulder County and saw it hitting over boulder and the Flatirons. There were four award winning shots that I took with my eyes and mind but could not get a good location to get that shot in time. |
